ABOUT THE BUILDING „LIDOVY DŮM“

Losyovsky Palace, once also known as the Kinsky Palace,

now mostly known as "Lidovy Dum", is an early Baroque palace at Hybernská 1033/7 in Prague's New Town. The historical part of the Lidovy Dum is a two-storey four-wing building enclosing the courtyard. The main facade to Hybernská Street with 24 axes is almost symmetrically divided by three risalits(avant-corps), the middle one is only shallow. The current appearance with garrets above the side risalits and a low triangular gable above the central projection was given to the façade only during Heger's reconstruction at the end of the 18th century. Only the entrance aedicule has been preserved from the early Baroque appearance, located asymmetrically next to the right risalit. Originally connecting gallery, the façade of the rear wing is blending into the classical stone shell while adding a touch of uniqness: there are blind arcades with stucco decoration, corresponding to Lurag's Baroque phase after 1651. A system of baroque barrel vaults and beamed vaulted ceilings with painted early Baroque decoration have been preserved in the interiors of the ground floor.

In 1907, the complex was bought by the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Workers' Party, later renamed the Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD). In the 1950s, the premises were converted into a museum, and after 1990, the palace complex was handed back to the CSSD.

The building is a protected cultural heritage and in 1992 it was inlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
